Dr. Jan Petzold
Dr. Jan Petzold is a research associate at the Department of Geography of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU). His interdisciplinary research focuses on social-ecological systems and climate change adaptation in coastal cities and on small islands. Before joining the LMU, he worked at the Cluster of Excellence ‘Climate, Climatic Change, and Society’ (CLICCS) of the University of Hamburg and the Technical Support Unit of Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In this position, he supported and contributed to the writing and production of several IPCC assessment reports, including the ‘Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate’ (SROCC) and the ‘Special Report on Climate Change and Land’ (SRCCL). Currently, he coordinates the research project TRANSCEND (www.transcend-project.org), which deals with vulnerability and adaptation to flood risks in coastal megacities, specifically Mumbai (India) and Jakarta (Indonesia). Moreover, he is an associate editor of the Island Studies Journal and co-leads the DFG Scientific Network ‘Leverage Points for Climate Action’ (www.leverage-points.com).
